Darren Petersen has established himself as a premier professional drums and percussion specialist in South Africa. Darren is currently a musical director and touring session player based between Cape Town and Johannesburg.
He works with Premier commercial artists in South Africa and is also a Roland South Africa Instrument Specialist, due to his in-depth love and passion for music technology.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO MAKE MUSIC?
Being able to express my emotions through the instrument and alongside the most amazing musicians and artists. Everytime I perform, I come away with feeling more inspired thanks to these moments of sharing. I am also always creating , so I enjoy fleshing our idea’s in studio or just on my instrument.

Michael Jackson for sure, purely because he is my hero on many different levels. His dedication to the craft and creating an experience for the audience I feel is unmatched, and that’s the reason we do what we do, to create an experience and to transport people to a magical space with our creations and art.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL AND WHY?
18″ K Thin Dark Crash – I just love it lol!
For me it’s just the right sounding, fast responding main crash . A very versatile cymbal aswell across genres.
I’ve always loved bright cymbals for pop, but this cymbal has the better balance for me versus the A’s I used to play. This has the darker voice, and the quick attack that I like, added to this is the warm rich wash.
