Luca De Bellis, 30 years old from Johannesburg, has been playing drums since the age of 7 and has always wanted to pursue a career in music. In 2016, he graduated from Wits University with a Bachelor of Music Honors Degree, majoring in jazz performance on drums. Luca has gained experience working as a session drummer in the South African music industry. His musical theatre career began in 2017, when he was given the great opportunity to play drums for the award winning musical, PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT on their international tour. Luca is proud to have been voted the “Top Up and Coming South African Drummer” by SA Drummer Magazine for 2017. In 2018, he played drums and percussion for the South African tour of THE SOUND OF MUSIC (2018). Following on from that, Luca played drums and percussion for the World Tour of CHICAGO THE MUSICAL, where he performed across 5 different countries, 17 different cities and a total of 358 shows, which began in August 2018 and finished in January 2020. Luca recently returned to South Africa from playing drums for the brand new re-imagined production of WE WILL ROCK YOU on it’s 2022/2023 world tour. Along with his work in the theatre industry, Luca is also grateful to play drums for one of South Africa’s finest entertainers, JONATHAN ROXMOUTH, on his various shows.
